Frequently asked questions about our worktops & shelves

Which work surface is right for my needs?
It depends on your application:
  • For standard workstations with normal use: Melamine-coated top, 30 mm thick, light gray
  • For tougher requirements: HPL-coated 0.8 mm – robust & scratch-resistant
  • For the heaviest use and maximum scratch resistance: HPL-coated 3.0 mm – extremely durable
  • For lab, electronics, and test stations: ESD-safe tops (melamine- or HPL-coated, volume-conductive)
  • For maximum scratch and chemical resistance: Work surface with stainless-steel cover
  • For general work: Multiplex or solid beech – robust, in various thicknesses
All variants are available in many sizes and, on request, with special features such as cutouts for scales.
What’s the difference between HPL 0.8 mm and HPL 3.0 mm?
HPL 0.8 mm is scratch-resistant and durable for everyday use. HPL 3.0 mm is extra tough, thicker, and ideal for heavy-duty work or rough tools. It offers the highest abrasion and scratch resistance in the range.
Which work surfaces are ESD-safe?
Two versions are ESD-safe: melamine-coated (volume-conductive) and HPL-coated 0.8 mm (also volume-conductive). Both are suitable for sensitive areas such as electronics assembly or test stations.
Which work surface is best for labs?
For labs, we recommend ESD tops (melamine or HPL) as well as stainless-steel tops. They’re easy to clean, chemical-resistant, and ESD friendly when needed.
Which work surface is the most durable?
The HPL 3.0 mm and the stainless-steel cover are the most durable. Multiplex (plywood) or solid beech are also very stable under mechanical loads.
Do you offer work surfaces in custom sizes?
Yes. All work surfaces are also available in custom sizes. Custom solutions are available on request and tailored to your needs.
Are there shelves that fit the table frames?
Yes. For every ERGO-line table frame, there are matching lower or side shelves in various widths and materials.
